At CHIDO, we have always tried to develop garments that reflect our vision of contemporary Mexican culture. We didn't want to design just another crop top. We wanted to create a piece with its own personality and an identity that could be recognized at first glance. This is how the development of what we now know as the Signature Crop Top began.
The collar and silhouette
During the design process, we began researching different Mexican cultural references. Among them, we discovered the Pachuco movement. Beyond its history, there was one detail that immediately caught our attention: the elongated collars. There was something elegant, rebellious, and timeless about those silhouettes that still looked current decades later. That observation became the starting point of the project.
At the same time, we have always been drawn to long-sleeve shirts. They have a distinct presence. They can look elegant without losing character and work perfectly within a more mature streetwear aesthetic.
However, we design from Sayulita, on the Pacific coast of Mexico. A place where heat is part of everyday life. A traditional long-sleeve shirt didn't seem like the best answer for our environment. The solution appeared at a midpoint: a 3/4 sleeve. A silhouette capable of retaining some of the elegance of a long-sleeve shirt while maintaining the necessary comfort for the climate we experience every day.The result was a relaxed, light, and easy-to-wear piece, but with enough details to differentiate it from a conventional crop top.

The choice of fabric
The next step was to find the right fabric.
We wanted to work with quality materials and develop a garment that made sense for our environment. We live and design near the sea, in a warm climate where comfort is as important as aesthetics. That's why we chose a light linen and rayon blend.
Linen has always attracted us for its ability to stay cool even on the hottest days. Rayon adds softness and movement, creating a comfortable combination for daily wear.
It was about creating a garment that we ourselves would want to wear in Sayulita.
The branding
For the branding, we wanted to follow a different philosophy. Instead of filling the piece with visible logos, we looked for something more discreet and versatile.
We wanted the garment to be usable in different contexts. On the beach, at a meal, during a trip, or on a night out.
For that reason, we decided to work with minimal graphic details.
We incorporated a high-definition Signature application over the heart, a second signature on the sleeve, and the CHIDO emblem on the back.
The intention was to create a balance between the natural texture of the fabric and a more contemporary and urban graphic detail.
A present identity, but never intrusive.
The result
Over time, the Signature Crop Top became one of CHIDO's most recognized pieces. Because we tried to create a garment that made sense for our environment, our culture, and our way of understanding design.
Sometimes, the best garments are born exactly like that
